The wife called attention to the NPR story “Study: Men Talk Just as Much as Women.” Hmmm… we’re not quite the mean here.

Fun Fourth
July 4th, 2007 · No Comments
The fireworks here in San Francisco are just about wrapped up. I’m not watching them, but I can hear them all the same as I sit relaxing on the couch after a beautiful day up in Healdsburg. The kids loved time in the pool…and so did I. Hope your holiday was great.

Milestones

Question: “Do you feel older?” Answer: “No, I feel bigger.” Must be fun to wake up to that feeling on your birthday. Family waffles for celebration at breakfast, and then a long day at the office for Dad.

Happy Birthday
March 26th, 2007 · 1 Comment
And another year has passed. Kids happily re-gifted some of their presents to me, and cupcakes were enjoyed by all. I started the day in darkness with a mile run on the Kezar track, as I’ve done occasionally in past years. 5:23 left me convinced that I haven’t slowed down too much, although I can’t [...]

Getting credit
March 22nd, 2007 · No Comments
I got to take credit for something today that I didn’t do, thanks to the wife. How much longer before the boy reads the blog and asks me what I’m referring to? (Yes, I owe you big time.)

Competition for the computer
March 21st, 2007 · 1 Comment
Last week, the boy wanted to make Inca masks. I told him we might find something on the Internet, so he typed away. Didn’t get a great response from the Safari address bar, but I think he’s starting to get the idea. Note: I never did find useful instructions for such a craft project, even [...]

RIP, James Kim
December 7th, 2006 · No Comments
James Kim, 1971-2006 Like so many around the country (especially in the small-world of the San Francisco Internet industry), I followed the story of the Kim family over the last week. After the unexpected lift in spirits when the family was found, it was especially disheartening to get the bad news yesterday afternoon. So, we [...]

Not just for breakfast anymore
November 22nd, 2006 · No Comments
I came downstairs this morning to hear the sound of cereal crunching away, and scurrying feet. The cereal sounds were coming from the girl, the feet were the boy’s. Rather than wake me or wait for me to come down, as we’ve done for years, the boy had gotten breakfast for himself, including milk for [...]

Make sure you are an organ donor
November 11th, 2006 · 1 Comment
A useful reminder, prompted by this post: make sure you are an organ donor. Painless but potentially powerful. For information about signing up, visit http://www.shareyourlife.org/. Read frequently asked questions about organ and tissue donation. I’ve added a linked logo to the left-hand sidebar of my blog.

Book: The Twenty-One Balloons
October 28th, 2006 · No Comments
On Monday morning, I had finished my previous book and was “stranded” on the plane without anything else to read, I raided the boy’s backpack for one of his new birthday gifts: The Twenty-One Balloons. What a fun tale. Written in 1947 by William Pène du Bois, Twenty-One Balloons won a Newberry Medal the following [...]
