OK, I’m biased. But I think OpenDNS CacheCheck is remarkable. Very simple, sure: you can see what address OpenDNS has for a domain, and ask OpenDNS to refresh that address if it’s not correct. Nothing more. Read what I wrote on the OpenDNS blog for more. But if it’s so simple, how come no one [...]

Comments back on the home page
October 17th, 2006 · No Comments
When I switched WordPress themes many moons ago, I “lost” the comments link at the end of each post as it appears on the home page. It was a simple theme edit, which I just resolved now. If you’re curious, the missing line of code was: < ?php comments_popup_link(‘No Comments »’, ’1 Comment »’, ‘% [...]

Measure Map is terribly slow, so FeedBurner buys BlogBeat
July 17th, 2006 · 1 Comment
(I’m making the connection in the headline, even if no one else would.) The blog measurement service Measure Map craaawwwwllllssss. I know… I’ve been using it for months, even before Google acquired the project from Adaptive Path. Today, I read that FeedBurner bought BlogBeat, expressly to beef up their analytics. And I say to myself… [...]

Upgraded to WordPress 2.03
June 17th, 2006 · No Comments
I’ve just upgraded to WordPress 2.03 from 1.5, less than six months after finally switching. So far, so good. This post will help test. Let me know if anything appears awry. I also added a way to subscribe to full-text posts via e-mail, courtesy of FeedBurner. For those that are interested, enter your address at [...]

Which webhost would you use?
June 6th, 2006 · 4 Comments
I’m not satisfied with my current webhost, TextDrive.com, and I’m looking for suggestions/alternatives. TextDrive has provided good support, mostly, and the $25/month for shared hosting is reasonable, though clearly not the cheapest out there. I have a handful of domains (<10), and pencoyd.com, running clock is the only active one. The 2GB storage and 10GB/month [...]

WebsitesAsGraphs – Visualization of clock’s HTML source code
May 28th, 2006 · No Comments
(Click the thumbnail for full-size.) I don’t know what this picture says about my blog’s structure, but I’m interested in different visualization efforts all the same. Here, clock‘s HTML source as a graph, courtesy of Sala. No last name given, but let’s assume the aharef in the domain is a last name until we learn [...]

Deactivate Markdown if your WordPress post content disappears
April 20th, 2006 · 1 Comment
Thanks to the very helpful geekgrrl on the WordPress.org support forums, clock is ticking once more, after being broken for a bit. All posts have their content once more. I noted the problem this morning with this note “Post content and comments not rendering (WP 1.5.2)” and a similar post “All copy in posts has [...]

clock is broken, working on it
April 20th, 2006 · 1 Comment
Somehow, I broke my blog. All that shows up now are the headlines, categories, and timestamps. The content is still there in the database when I go to edit, but not rendering. I haven’t changed anything that I know of, but it is suspicious (maybe?) that post 1000 was the last one live. I’m making [...]

Wind the clock once more
March 26th, 2006 · No Comments
Today was a day of recovery, from a vacation! And a milestone. I started clock three years ago today. I think my pace was greater the first year, and maybe the second year, too. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. (Keep repeating that!)

Will blog analytics disrupt the measurement marketplace?
February 22nd, 2006 · 5 Comments
I run Measure Map on clock to stay somewhat apprised of who’s reading what on this blog. I’m an alpha customer, so I paid attention last week when Google purchased the company from Adaptive Path. I don’t pretend to know Google’s strategy on analytics, but I am curious, personally, to know what the long-term cost [...]
